Leave the Gold for the End of the Rainbow

With St. Patrick's Day quickly approaching, the end of the rainbow is one of the only places gold should be found; it is not our first choice for the crowns in your mouth. Luckily, at Preference Dental, we offer you a beautiful alternative to gold crowns.

Our office strives to have the most up-to-date, beneficial technology available to our patients and one of our favorites is the Cerec Omnicam and Bluecam. This CAD/CAM based technology, allows us to build crowns and restorations onsite while the patient is in the chair. This means no more sticky impressions that have to stay in your mouth for three to five minutes. Our doctors take an optical impression using our the Omni or Blue camera to create digital models of the teeth, and how they fit together. The Cerec software is then used to design and build a new tooth, custom, to fit your mouth.

The design is sent via wireless link to our milling unit where the new restoration is ground from a solid block of ceramic. We choose the block of porcelain based upon the shade and strength needed to make the tooth look and function appropriately. The twin-bur machining system has proved itself time and time again in practical applications, milling the ceramic restorations gently, yet with the utmost precision.

Once the restoration is done milling, unique tooth color customization can begin. Emax restorations must be crystallized in the oven and cooled which doubles the strength of the original block of porcelain. Empress restorations can be customized and baked in the oven, or hand polished. These restorations are not cemented as was traditionally done. Instead, we bond the restorations in place, providing greater strength, better color, conservative tooth preparations, and the ability to eat and drink immediately. Our patients do not have to wear a temporary for 2-3 weeks, and come back for a second visit to place the final restoration cutting into their vacation/sick time! We value our patient's time and realize that they do as well, which is why we love the efficiency of the Cerec process; it is all done in one visit!
